Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan has been in the spotlight this year, not only for his back-to-back film releases but also for his witty presence on social media. The actor, who starred in Be Happy and Housefull 5 and whose latest film Kaalidhar Laapata is streaming on ZEE5, is currently shooting Siddharth Anand’s King in Poland. Recently, though, he made headlines for an entirely different reason, through a funny cricket mix-up.
During a television discussion on Pakistan’s Asia Cup final hopes, former pacer Shoaib Akhtar accidentally mentioned Abhishek Bachchan instead of Indian opener Abhishek Sharma. While analysing Pakistan’s prospects against India, Shoaib Akhtar suggested that dismissing “Abhishek Bachchan” early would put pressure on India’s middle order. The slip of the tongue caused laughter among the panel, who quickly corrected him, clarifying that he meant Abhishek Sharma, the young left-hander who has been in superb form with consecutive half-centuries.

The amusing moment spread quickly across social media, with the show’s host and guests also chuckling at the blunder. Abhishek Bachchan himself responded in trademark style. Sharing the clip online, he joked that Pakistan wouldn’t have to worry since he was not good at cricket at all.
Abhishek Bachchan wrote, “Sir, with all due respect… don’t think they’ll even manage that! And I’m not even good at playing cricket.”

His humorous reaction drew a flood of replies from fans, many praising his wit. Some teased that he had “already hit sixes with words”, while others playfully connected the slip-up to his film Ghoomer.
Meanwhile, attention now shifts firmly to the Asia Cup 2025 final, which will take place in Dubai on September 28. India heads into the clash as the tournament favourite, having remained unbeaten so far. Their campaign has been powered by the explosive batting of Abhishek Sharma who has consistently provided fiery starts and the bowling brilliance of Kuldeep Yadav who leads the wicket charts.
Despite these strengths, India’s fielding has been a cause for concern, with as many as 12 catches dropped under the tricky “ring of fire” floodlights at the Dubai International Stadium. This remains one area the team will want to tighten before facing Pakistan.
Pakistan, on the other hand, sealed their spot in the final with a narrow 11-run win over Bangladesh. Their bowling attack, led by Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf, remains dangerous, though their middle order has struggled for consistency and continues to be their biggest weakness.
As the cricketing world gears up for the much-anticipated India–Pakistan final, Abhishek Bachchan’s light-hearted moment has added a touch of humour to the build-up, bridging Bollywood and cricket in an unexpected way.
