A delightful UK coastal town has often been likened to Italy's enchanting Amalfi Coast, due to its vibrant buildings, stunning harbour, and picturesque surroundings. Holidaymakers seeking a cost-effective alternative to the Italian gem might want to consider Ramsgate in Kent.
With its golden sandy beaches and scenic coastal walks, it's the stuff of any adventurous traveller's dream. Factor in that it enjoys some of the warmest weather in the UK, and it's no wonder it's long been a popular choice with British holidaymakers. Ramsgate also offers all the quintessential British seaside charm, thanks to the plethora of fish and chip shops, arcades, ice cream parlours, and pubs lining its promenade.

One of the major highlights is undoubtedly the Royal Harbour - the only harbour in the UK to be granted this status after King George IV was impressed by a visit to the coastal spot.
The marina is adorned with a series of colourful waterfront buildings reminiscent of those you'll have seen on social media of Positano, renowned for its pastel-coloured buildings nestled into a lush green valley, reports the Mirror. The rows of boats filling Ramsgate's harbour are equally impressive - and again, it's easy to see why it's frequently compared to the Italian holiday hotspot.
Meanwhile, Ramsgate Main Sands, with its golden beaches and inviting waters, is a favourite spot when the British weather graces us with sunshine and warm temperatures. The Blue Flag beach is conveniently located near shops and restaurants, and offers amenities such as toilets, parking and deckchair hire.
Dog owners should note that dogs are not allowed on the beach from May 1 to September 30. Lifeguards will be present at the beach this summer until July 13, and then again from July 19 through to September 7, between 10am and 6pm.
For those who crave adventure rather than simply lounging on a towel, there's an array of activities to try in the area, including scuba diving, kayaking, boat trips, paddleboarding, and kitesurfing, along with many other watersports. Land lovers will also find plenty to do, whether it's birdwatching, playing a round of golf, or using the various sports centres to get some exercise.
There are also beautiful hiking and cycling trails to explore, with routes suitable for everyone, whether you're after a leisurely scenic stroll or a more challenging hike (and rewarding yourself with fish and chips afterwards!).
When the British weather turns sour, which let's be honest, is often during the summer months, Ramsgate offers a plethora of museums and galleries to explore.
A popular day out includes a visit to the Ramsgate Tunnels, an underground maze that stretches over three miles around the town. Guided tours are available, allowing you to delve into their intriguing history whilst soaking up the impressive surroundings.
