As autumn rolls in, cities all over the UK are being wrapped in stunning golds, crimsons, and crisp leaves. It's the time for cosy walks, warm drinks, and discovering new favourite spots away from the summer crowds. To find out which places really capture the mood, a study by Premier Inn used eyetracking software to measure which towns and cities people linger on longest when shown autumn images. Topping both the UK ranking and the world ranking, Bath in Somerset stood out in the study as the big winner.
On average, people's eyes rested on images of the city for longer than any other, with its landmarks, the architecture, the surrounding litup foliage all combining to draw attention. Bath's stunning Georgian architecture, its UNESCO World Heritage status, and Roman heritage give it layers of beauty that feel even more magical in autumn.

Premier Inn wrote: "As well as topping the charts for the UK's most beautiful autumn city, Bath makes it a clean sweep by topping the charts globally."
The city's stone buildings and centuries-old architecture glow under soft golden light in the autumn, leaves crunch underfoot in the beautifully landscaped parks, and you can enjoy the city's celebrated spas and museums without the queues that you find during the summer months.
Some Bath must-sees include the Roman Baths, Bath Abbey, the majestic Pulteney Bridge, the 18th century Prior Park Landscape Garden, as well as Royal Victoria Park, and the breathtaking architecture of the Royal Crescent.
Participants in the Premier Inn study spent an average of 1.74 seconds gazing at images of Bath, followed by Chicago with 1.66 seconds, and Cape Town with 1.55 seconds.
Another UK city featured in the top 20 is Bristol, which is conveniently close to Bath. Both cities offer stunning autumn scenery, making the region a fantastic destination for a seasonal getaway or day trip.
