Having peaked at sixth in the world and made the semi-finals of a Grand Slam, Mirra Andreeva has hit heights other top players never reach over the course of an entire career. And she has managed it at the tender age of 18.
While the Russian boasts plenty of natural talent, she has made it clear that a gruelling training schedule has also played its part in her rise to stardom. Overseeing that is former women's world No.2 Conchita Martinez, who started coaching Andreeva in April last year. And the 1994 Wimbledon champion does not do things by halves on the practice court.
After beating Lucia Bronzetti in the second round on Thursday, and before taking to the doubles court alongside Diana Shnaider later in the day, Andreeva shed light on the nature of her training schedule with Martinez.
And the 53-year-old coach was seen shaking her head at the point Andreeva admitted she is 'pushed to her limits' behind the scenes.
"I still have doubles later today so I'm just going to be having fun on the court a little bit later," said Andreeva, who beat Bronzetti 6-1 7-6. "I think we should ask Conchita what we will work on because I'm sure she's not going to just let me go home.
"We'll stay here for a couple more hours and practice something. It's not going to be easy but what can I say? She pushes me to my limit so thanks for that, I guess!"
Andreeva is well-known to Wimbledon regulars, having made it all the way to the fourth round as a 16-year-old in 2023. She suffered a first-round exit last year, but she is back on a roll this time round with her win over Bronzetti preceded by an equally dominant victory over Mayar Sherif in round one.
The youngster's packed-out playing and training schedule also includes doubles. She is up to 13th in the world women's doubles rankings after making it to two Grand Slam semi-finals this year, with her and Shnaider seeded fifth at the All England Club.
The high-flying pair will get their campaign underway against Heather Watson and Emily Appleton on Court 4, with the British duo hoping that Andreeva's singles commitments and rigorous training regime will have left her short on energy come the latter stages of the day.
