'I went to Europe's most beautiful Christmas market and there's one thing you have to try'

There's a reason travellers describe it as straight out of a fairy tale. As snow begins to fall across Estonia's capital, the cobbled streets of Tallinn's Old Town transform into one of Europe's most storybook winter destinations - one that looks and feels like something from an old-school Disney scene. Set against a backdrop of one of Europe's best preserved medieval old towns, Tallinn's Christmas market oozes charm and is the perfect place to feel cosy, strolling through wooden huts with a mulled wine or glögi.

Located in the Town Hall Square, aka Raekoja plats, the market first began in 1997 and has grown intoone of Europe's most beautiful Christmas events, despite often being overlooked for its German and Austrian counterparts. At its heart stands a towering Christmas tree, continuing a tradition dating back to 1441, when Tallinn displayed what is thought to be the world's first public Christmas tree.

Taking a trip to the market were popular travel vloggers Caleb and Taylor, aka Culture Craving Couple, who were blown away by its charm, describing it as "Europe's most beautiful".

They added: "Tallinn might be small, but its Christmas market is one of the most beautiful in Europe. And honestly, the mulled wine was so good we couldn't stop drinking it, and what's better than adult beverages and steaming carbs under the magic of twinkling lights."

The market is the perfect place to pick up a trinket to take home, with dozens of wooden stalls selling hand-carved gifts, handmade scarves, local ceramics, and traditional Estonian foods.

And if you're hungry, the smell of roasted almonds, fresh gingerbread, and sizzling sausages fills the air, while the square has a soft glow from the fairy lights dangling above.

But it's not just in the dark that you should go for a visit. The vlogger revealed: "Tallinn's Christmas market is one of those rare ones that is actually beautiful in the day and the evening. It feels straight out of a fairytale as it's set in the best preserved medieval old town in Europe."

Even after a day and night exploring its Christmassy stalls, Tallinn's UNESCO-listed Old Town continues the magic.

Narrow lanes lead to cosy cafés serving hot chocolate and spicy pepperkook biscuits, while nearby St Catherine's Passage is lined with stunning workshops perfect for finding unique gifts that could make the perfect Christmas present.

Interestingly, on their visit to the market, the couple found one thing that sets it apart from the rest. The result will leave you feeling warm inside and particularly merry - as long as you're a fan of alcohol.

"Something unique about the Tallinn Christmas market is that there is a tonne of varieties for mulled wine, you have your traditional, you have some currant ones, mulled limoncello and also some typical Estonian flavours like seabuckthorn."

The couple even tried one infused with Jägermeister that "tastes nothing like the shots you used to do" and a spiced wine infused with piana vyshnia, a Ukrainian cherry liquor.
