It looks like Emmerdale viewers haven't seen the last of fugitive John Sugden (played by Oliver Farnsworth) as a huge clue to the long running ITV soaps crossover with Coronation Street has dropped. The soaps are set to team up for a special episode in the new year and a recent scene from the Weatherfield set drama indicated John Sugden would be part of it.

John fled Emmerdale after Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) and Caleb Milligan (Will Ash) uncovered his crimes against the villagers - including the murder of Cain's son Nate Robinson (Jurrell Carter). While Emmerdale residents have no idea where he is gone Coronation Street viewers got a surprise when he popped up in a scene on the cobbles. In the episode which aired on Wednesday 24th September 2025, Asha Alahan (Tanisha Gorey) visited the police station and at one point one the wall there was a visible wanted poster for the killer.

This would seem to imply John's storyline is far from over and he will be involved in the special crossover episode. Caleb helped him flee after being blackmailed about his father-in-laws death at the hands of his wife Ruby Fox-Milligan (Beth Cordingly).

Cain is still determined to get justice for his son though so it is possible he may also feature in any crossover involving John.

John's departure came as his husband Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) appeared to be rekindling his romance with John's brother Robert (Ryan Hawley).

Arron is unaware that newcomer Kev (Chris Coghill) is actually Robert's husband. Robert tried to break things off with him in the latest episode on Thursday October 10 when he visited Kev in prison but he was unable to after it became clear Kev was unstable.

Fans of the show had a lot of thoughts about Robert's union with the unpredictable jailbird with many feeling he was being manipulated. Writing on X one said: " We saw today how dangerous Kev is today so imagine how much worse those other guys who attacked Rob were. So if Rob has to keep K sweet for now I have no problem with that. And in the end Aaron will understand that too."

"While I think Kev is massively dangerous I'm not sure if he is the cause of Robert's trauma. That could come from the people who attacked Robert. Looks to me as if Rob had to choose between being attacked or marrying a psycho..." a second opined.

A third pondered: "So did Kev see Robert heartbroken over Aaron and take advantage? He keeps asking if he got back with his ex. You only get back together with an ex you still love."

Meanwhile a fourth had a story suggestion for the crossover penning: "So if John is going to be in the crossover episode then maybe Kev will kill him...which is kind of perfect as he is dying anyway. No-one needs to go to prison and #robron don't need divorces #emmerdale."
