Andy Murray has landed a new job away from tennis, having agreed a partnership that will see him appear in TV adverts throughout the UK. The two-time Wimbledon champion has stepped away from the sport following his retirement at last summer's Olympics. He briefly coached Novak Djokovic earlier this year but now appears to be more focused on reducing his golf handicap.
Away from the sporting world, Murray has taken up a few other ventures with a view to boosting his bank balance. Last month, he teamed up with pet food giant PURINA for an advertising campaign alongside his nine-month-old puppy, Bonnie. Now, he has gone back into the world of advertising with Albert Bartlett, the UK's leading supplier of potatoes.
In the summer, it was announced that Murray had agreed a long-term partnership with Albert Bartlett and he recently took part in a campaign which will run until the end of December.
The advert is designed to showcase the relatable panic when it comes to to serving up delicious and nutritious meals at home. It aims to show that Albert Bartlett products can give anybody the confidence to 'feel like a champion in the kitchen'.
Neil Walker, the campaign's creative director, said: "We set out to capture the pace and excitement of bringing something new to the table, letting Andy's personality come through.
"The result is a fun, energetic campaign that shows how Albert Bartlett helps everyone bring out their best side, inside and outside the kitchen."
Reflecting on his experience filming the advert, Murray said he enjoyed it and revealed that his wife Kim is looking forward to him cooking more at home.
"I'm really pleased with how these ads have turned out," he said. "Working with the Albert Bartlett team was great fun.
"I actually picked up a few cooking skills along the way. Now that I'm at home more, I think those tips will come in handy. My wife's pretty excited about that too."
The advert featuring Murray will run across multiple platforms over the coming weeks, including TV, video on demand, digital, outdoor and social channels.
Given that his partnership with Albert Bartlett is described as long-term, it would not be a surprise to see the 38-year-old appear in more campaigns further down the line.
