Mumbai: A 73-year-old woman lost her life in a tragic accident inside a residential complex in Matunga East on July 9, after being struck by a car while the driver was attempting to park the vehicle.
The Matunga Police have registered a case against the driver, Manohar Tirupati Taduka, 39, a software engineer, under sections 106(1) and 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), for negligent driving causing death.
According to the FIR, the deceased, Jayaben Parekh, 73, was a resident of Hub Town Harmony Building on Bhau Daji Road, Matunga East. On the afternoon of July 9, at around 3:10 PM, she stepped out of her residence to visit her sister and was waiting outside the building for a friend.
At that time, the accused, Taduka, a resident of the Shivtej Aashiyana building in Seawoods, Navi Mumbai, had arrived to visit his sister in his newly purchased Mahindra XUV700 (MH 43 CM 8521). He was attempting to park the car within the building premises.
According to police officials, Taduka lost control of the car while parking, causing the vehicle to lurch forward and strike Parekh. She was knocked down and sustained severe injuries after being run over by the front wheel.

However, despite efforts by medical staff, Jayaben was declared dead during the course of treatment.
Jayaben Parekh lived in the building with her son Manoj Parekh,53, a garment businessman, along with other family members. The incident has left residents of the locality in shock.
