Mumbai: In a major breach of trust, two employees working at a Girgaon-based metal trading company allegedly absconded with Rs 40 lakh in cash on June 28, which was entrusted to them for a business delivery. The V P Road Police have registered a case of criminal breach of trust and are currently investigating.

According to the complaint filed by Nilesh Samarthmal Doshi (44), proprietor of Sandoz Metals India, located at 63, First Sutar Gully Corner, Nanubhai Desai Road, Girgaon, the incident took place when Doshi instructed his two male employees—Hanuman Ram (30), a resident of Barmer, Rajasthan, and Behra Ram (28), a resident of Jalore, Rajasthan—to collect ₹40 lakh from a business associate and deliver it to a client at Zaveri Bazaar.

Doshi, taking precautions, had instructed the duo to first deliver ₹20 lakh and then return to collect the remaining ₹20 lakh before making the second delivery. The money was collected from Supreme Silk Mills, owned by Uttam Sanghvi, located in Chira Bazaar.

According to Doshi, the two employees left the office on a company-issued e-bike. However, after a considerable delay and no confirmation of delivery, Doshi contacted Sanghvi, who confirmed that both men had taken Rs 20 lakh and returned shortly thereafter to collect the second installment of Rs.20 lakh—making it a total of ₹40 lakh in ₹500 denominations (8,000 notes).

The money, however, never reached the intended recipient at Zaveri Bazaar. Doshi attempted to contact both employees on their mobile phones, but their devices were switched off. Using the e-bike’s GPS tracking system, Doshi traced the vehicle abandoned near Gift Tower in First Sutar Gully, Girgaon.

Following the discovery, Doshi approached the VP Road Police Station and filed an official complaint against both employees. The police have since registered a case under relevant sections and launched a search operation for the absconding individuals. Further investigation is underway.
