Kolkata: Ahead of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) implementation, West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer’s (WB-CEO) office is all set to start training of the trainers from Tuesday. Meanwhile, Deputy Election Commissioner (DEC) Gyanesh Bharti will visit the state from September 18-19 to supervise the preparations of SIR in Bengal.
WB-CEO Manoj Agarwal and two additional CEOs Dibyendu Das and Arindam Neogi will start imparting the training tomorrow to the ADMs and EROs across the state. The ADMs will further train the Booth Level Officers (BLOs) in the state as the next step, people in the know said.
The WB-CEO's office has already appointed 79,000 BLOs across the state. West Bengal will go to assembly polls in 2026.
After the first level of training of the trainers, who are the ADMs and EROs, the BLOs would impart the training on filling up Enumeration forms for SIR, sources informed. When the SIR process starts, the BLOs will reach all the households with pre-filled Enumeration forms and help the voters in filling up the forms.
"The process of training starts from tomorrow and it is part of the pre-SIR exercise ahead of the visit of Deputy Election Commissioner (DEC) Gyanesh Bharti’s visit to Bengal starting from September 18-19 to supervise the preparations of SIR in Bengal," a top official said.
West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer’s (WB-CEO’s) office has already instructed all the District Magistrates, who are DEOs, in Bengal to match data of 2002 SIR, which was the last SIR in Bengal, with the latest 2025 data of current electoral rolls, following directives by the Election Commission of India (ECI), ahead of the forthcoming Special Intensive Revision (SIR) across the country. The exercise is expected to be completed in seven to ten days.
