In a year packed with pan-Indian blockbusters, a modestly budgeted Kannada horror comedy has quietly rewritten the rules of success. Su From So (Sulochana From Someshwara), directed by and starring J. P. Thuminad, has not only won the hearts of audiences but also the box office, raking in over Rs 120 crore. What makes this film even more remarkable is its rooted storytelling, quirky genre mix, and grounded humour. Now, the film has officially made its digital debut.

Su From So streaming online

Following its impressive six-week theatrical run, Su From So is now available for streaming on JioHotstar. The film has been dubbed in Telugu and Malayalam, in addition to its original Kannada version, making it accessible to a wider audience. However, fans are still waiting for Tamil version as the audio is not available for it. Those who missed it on screen, can watch it now at home.

Directed by J. P. Thuminad, who also plays the lead role, the film was made on a shoestring budget of Rs 6 crore and produced by Raj B. Shetty. Despite its modest origins, Su From So went through an intense development phase, reportedly undergoing 26 rewrites before finalising the script. The story, inspired by real incidents from the director’s own village, brings a sense of authenticity and charm that has struck a chord with audiences.

The movie smartly brings elements of horror and comedy, a genre combination that isn’t often explored in Indian cinema, and certainly not with this level of finesse. The result is a film that’s both entertaining and rooted.

All you need to know about Su From So

Su From So revolves around the story of Ashoka, a carefree young man from a small village, whose life changes when people start to believe he’s possessed by a ghost named Sulochana. The film features a strong ensemble cast, including Shaneel Gautham, Sandhya Arakere, Prakash Thuminad, and Mime Ramdas. The music is composed by Sumedh K. and Sandeep Thulasidas. The production houses, Lighter Buddha Films and Shree Devi Entertainers, now have one of India’s most profitable films to their credit, with a return on investment of over 1,000%.
