The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation ( DMRC) has announced that metro services across all lines will begin at 4:00 AM on Friday, 15 August 2025, to facilitate public attendance at the Independence Day ceremony. The early start is intended to assist special guests, invitees, and the general public in reaching the venue on time.

Reduced frequency in early hours for Independence Day 2025
According to DMRC, train services will run at a frequency of 30 minutes on all lines from 4:00 AM until 6:00 AM. After 6:00 AM, the metro will operate as per the regular timetable for the remainder of the day.

Independence Day 2025: Special travel arrangements for invitees

Individuals holding a bonafide invitation card issued by the Ministry of Defence will be provided with special QR tickets for travel to and from the ceremony venue. These QR tickets will be supplied by DMRC, and the cost of such travel will be reimbursed by the Ministry of Defence. The nearest metro stations to the venue are Lal Quila, Jama Masjid, and Delhi Gate.

Operational focus during festival rush

Separately, DMRC registered its highest-ever single-day ridership on August 8, 2025, with a total of 81,87,674 passenger journeys recorded across all lines. According to the corporation, the record-breaking numbers reflected increased travel demand ahead of the Raksha Bandhan festival.

To manage the passenger load, DMRC operated 92 additional train trips on August 8 and scheduled 455 extra trips for August 9. These adjustments were aimed at improving train frequency and reducing crowding for commuters.

The metro operator noted that it routinely implements operational changes during major festivals. For Raksha Bandhan, more trains were deployed during peak hours, and additional crowd management efforts were put in place at key interchange stations to maintain smooth passenger flow.
