If you are teaching your children in a CBSE school, then now you can get some relief regarding their safety. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has taken strict steps to ensure the safety of students in schools is more robust. Now, it has been made mandatory for all CBSE-affiliated schools to install high-resolution CCTV cameras in their entire campus.
Amending its rules on Monday, CBSE has said that every school will have to make such a surveillance system so that every step of the children can be recorded. The cameras will record not only video but also audio. This decision has been taken keeping in mind the increasing incidents in schools and the safety of the students.
Where will the cameras be installed?
According to the new guidelines of the board, high-quality cameras will have to be installed at all important places like the main gate of the school, classrooms, staff rooms, labs, library, canteen, corridors, stairs, playground, and outside toilets. The special thing is that these cameras will be able to record both audio and video. However, cameras will not be installed inside toilets and washrooms.
At least 15 days of recording should be saved
CBSE has also said that the cameras should be connected to such storage devices in which at least 15 days of recording can be kept safe. The purpose of this is that if any kind of incident happens, the truth can be brought out with the help of footage. All schools will have to ensure that the backup of the recording is kept safe and can be made available to the concerned authority if needed.
Schools will have to provide proof
CBSE has also asked all schools to provide proof that they have followed the new instructions of the board. If any school does not follow these rules, action can be taken against it. Schools will have to send the monitoring system report to the board from time to time.
Why was this decision taken?
In the last few years, security related incidents have come to the fore in school premises. Parents and society have been constantly raising questions on the monitoring system of schools. This step of CBSE is being considered a big and necessary step towards giving a safe environment to the children.
Now when every step of the children will be monitored by cameras, the school environment is expected to become even more secure. It is also expected that this will also increase transparency and accountability in the school administration.
