He is expected to spend several days in hospital receiving necessary treatment.

Steve Foster, the friend who found him, shared that Gascoigne is grateful for the outpouring of support from numerous old friends who are eager to see him recover, reports Birmingham Live.

Speaking to The Sun, Foster said Gascoigne would "like to thank everyone for the support he's received so far from so many old friends who wish him well and want to see him back to his best.

Foster said he had driven the former midfielder to hospital, adding: "Paul is in hospital, which is the best possible place for him to be right now."

Earlier in the year, Gazza expressed optimism about his health, stating to The Mirror that he felt better than he had in many years after battling alcohol addiction and mental health issues.

The 58-year-old remarked: "I feel better now than I have in years."

"I hope I am at a point that I can look back over everything I've gone through with a different, more positive, perspective.

"After so many years in the spotlight, I feel like it's time people got to know the real me."
