A crucial factor towards Arsenal lining up a possible deal to sign Aston Villa midfielder Morgan Rogers would appear to have been wiped clean, thus denting the Gunners' chances.
As the summer window opened one month ago, Arsenal became linked with interest in the talented Rogers.
For around £15m Villa snapped up the 22-year-old from Championship side Middlesbrough and their instincts have proven to be spot on as he has quickly developed into a Premier League-grade star.

In 54 total appearances, Rogers has scored 14 goals and created a further 15, plus also made his senior England debut midway through the 2024/25 campaign.
As Villa failed to qualify for next season's Champions League naturally this resulted in rumours of joining a club in Arsenal's position, readily able to offer that higher level of competition on a more regular basis.
Tied to the scenario had been the Midlands club's strong fears over breaking Premier League Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) before tonight's deadline. The sale of a homegrown player such as Rogers, albeit a last resort, would provide them with a large enough sum of pure profit to allay these fears.
But Villa have newfound confidence that they would not need to sell Rogers to Arsenal, or anybody else for that matter, as negotiations continue to sell their women's team.
The Telegraph explain with a value in the region of £55m, Villa would be able to include this sale in their 2024/25 accounts provided an agreement in principle is made before end of play on June 30, and can be completed in the opening days of July.
Ten per cent of the women's team is being sold to investors for £5.5m whilst the rest is being sold to the club's holding company.
The Premier League's accounting period resets overnight and Villa will have successfully completed their mission to stay within the green lines.
It does not eliminate a potential deal for Arsenal to sign Rogers entirely, it merely makes it an uphill task with the selling club under no pressure whatsoever and the midfielder tied to a contract that runs until 2030.
Rogers may end up becoming one to watch again in 2026 as Villa will not have the revenue from playing in the Champions League to boost their finances.
